Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 1, 2026
1. Core SoundQR Data We Do Not Upload
SoundQR's core encode, decode, encryption, and local history features do not upload:
- Voice recordings or audio data
- QR codes or encoded payloads
- Encryption passwords
- Decoded QR audio content
- Precise app-created local history
- Location data
The Google Mobile Ads SDK may separately process ad-related identifiers, IP address, interactions, and diagnostics for advertising, measurement, and fraud-prevention purposes.
2. Ad-Related Data
SoundQR displays banner ads provided by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. To provide ads, measure ad performance, detect fraud and abuse, and support advertising services, the SDK may automatically collect and share data with Google, including:
- Device identifiers
- Android Advertising ID or App Set ID where available
- IP address
- User product interactions with ads
- Diagnostic information
Google ad products may use identifiers, IP addresses, cookies or similar technologies, and web beacons where applicable. Google states that data collected by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit. Learn more at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
3. Permissions and How They Are Used
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO)
Used solely to record your voice within the app. Audio is processed entirely on your
device using the Codec2 audio codec and is never uploaded or transmitted anywhere.
Camera (CAMERA)
Used solely to scan QR codes through the in-app camera viewfinder. Camera frames are
processed on-device in real time and are never saved or transmitted.
Storage (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — Android 8 and below only)
Used to save QR code images to your device's storage when you choose to save them.
No files are uploaded or shared without your explicit action.
4. On-Device Storage
SoundQR stores a local history of your encoded QR sessions in a database on your device. This includes timestamps, recording durations, codec settings, and QR thumbnail images. This data never leaves your device and can be deleted at any time from within the app.
5. Encryption
SoundQR offers optional AES-256-GCM encryption for QR payloads. If you choose to encrypt, a password you provide is used to derive an encryption key on your device using PBKDF2. The password is never stored, logged, or transmitted — it exists only in memory for the duration of the operation.
6. Advertising
SoundQR may display ads provided by Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK. Ad activity is separate from SoundQR's core audio and QR processing. Core audio encoding and decoding works on-device and is not affected by whether an ad loads successfully.
You can opt out of interest-based advertising at any time through your device settings:
- Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID
Before publishing an ad-enabled build, the release owner should confirm whether a consent message, privacy options entry point, or other regional privacy controls are required for the intended distribution regions.
7. Third-Party Services
Aside from Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK described above, SoundQR does not integrate third-party analytics, crash reporting, or cloud services for its core voice, QR, encryption, or local history features.
8. Children's Privacy
SoundQR's core features do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because banner ads are provided by Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK and may involve ad-related data processing, the app's target-audience and regional child-directed treatment settings must be reviewed before publishing an ad-enabled release.
9. Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
